The Portadown FC Youth Soccer Festival came into being because of two reasons,
1) to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Portadown FC Youth as a club and
2) after visiting tournaments run by other clubs and individuals it was decided that the club should dip their toe into what seemed to be a great opportunity to raise the profile of the club.

The process all began back in June 2008 when a couple of members from the club's management committee were present at a poorly run tournament and thought that the club should be organising a tournament. One of those members spent the next few weeks thinking up a number of different formats for a tournament and after taking advice from the other member involved a format was finally settled upon before putting it to the rest of the committee in October 2008. The committee passed the idea and the Portadown FC Youth Soccer Festival was born.

The club though it would be good to have a tournament established before other clubs fill the summer calender with their own tournaments and if it was organised properly then we could have the top teams from the country travelling year after year to take part in the Portadown FC Youth Soccer Festival.
